WINS to Host International Workshop on Advanced Technologies in Cybersecurity for Nuclear Facilities

The World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) will host an International Best Practices Workshop on the Role of Advanced Technologies in Effective Cybersecurity at Nuclear Facilities from 3 to 5 February 2026 in Vienna, Austria.

This three-day workshop will bring together experts from across the nuclear and cybersecurity communities – including operators, regulators, technology vendors, and academic institutions – to explore how emerging digital tools can strengthen cyber resilience in the nuclear sector.

As nuclear facilities become increasingly digitalized, they face new vulnerabilities and evolving threats. The workshop will focus on how advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), behavioural analytics, and zero-trust frameworks can enhance detection, response, and prevention of cyber incidents targeting operational and information technology systems.

Key objectives include:

  • Examining the latest threat landscape affecting nuclear facilities.
  • Sharing international best practices and lessons learned.
  • Discussing case studies and practical applications of advanced cybersecurity tools.
  • Encouraging collaboration and diversity in the nuclear cybersecurity community – with WINS aiming for at least 40% female participation among speakers and attendees.

The event will take place at Wolke 19 in Ares Tower (Donau-City-Strasse 11, 1220 Vienna) and will host around 40 participants from around the world. Participation is free of charge, though attendees are responsible for travel and accommodation costs.
